Laidley

Just a few kilometres south of Gatton and an hour's drive from Brisbane, Laidley, Queensland's Country Garden, is one of the larger rural towns in the incredibly productive Lockyer Valley. This area has been providing many of the vegetables that grace plates in Queensland and the eastern states for more than 100 years.

Squatters first began to settle what was to become Queensland’s country garden in the 1840s and the village gradually grew around an inn and lagoon where drovers and their stock rested.

Many of the original buildings have been preserved in the Laidley Pioneer Village, while the lagoon where cattle once slaked their thirst is now an agreeable flora and fauna sanctuary.

One of the town's surviving cottages, Das Neumann Haus, which was built in 1894, is now a charming museum, art and craft gallery and café.

Just 2km out of town, Lake Dyer offers camping, picnic and BBQ facilities, fishing and water sports opportunities.

Laidley has been highlighted as a major growth region over the next 10 yrs with significant development and population growth to occur. This combined with significant new employment opportunities in the surrounding region is ensuring Laidley is becoming the thriving centre of the Western Corridor.
